Those cream, white and pink patches have little or no chlorophyll, the green pigment plants use to turn light into energy. That's why variegated plants:
- need brighter light than their all-green relatives,
- usually grow more slowly,
- and can "revert" in a dim spot, putting out plain green leaves to catch more light.
If a stem comes in solid green, you can trim it back to the last variegated leaf to keep the pattern going.
