Fungus gnats don't bite, but their larvae live in damp soil, feeding on organic matter and sometimes on tender roots. The good news: they depend on wet soil, so you can break the cycle.
- Let the top inch or two of soil dry out between waterings.
- Put yellow sticky traps in the pots to catch the adults.
- Try bottom watering, so the surface stays drier.
- For stubborn cases, look for a product with BTI, a naturally occurring bacterium that targets the larvae.
It takes a few weeks to break the cycle, so be patient.
