- Black ZZ plant: new leaves come in bright green and slowly darken to a glossy, almost-black finish.
- Alocasia 'Black Velvet': leaves so dark and soft they look like suede, with silvery veins.
- Rex begonias: some varieties come in deep burgundy, near-black and silver.
They look dramatic, but the care is familiar: bright indirect light, careful watering, and a little extra humidity for the alocasia. All three are best kept away from curious pets.
