Most tropical houseplants start to suffer once nights drop below about 50°F (10°C). If yours spent the summer outdoors, do this before they come through the door:

  1. Check under the leaves and along the stems for pests. Spider mites, mealybugs and aphids love to hitch a ride.
  2. Rinse the foliage with a gentle spray of water.
  3. Keep them away from your other plants for a week or two, just in case.
  4. Expect a few dropped leaves. Indoor light is much dimmer than a porch, and they need time to adjust.
  5. Water less. Indoors, soil stays wet much longer.
